The Associação Brasileira de Conservadores e Restauradores de Bens Culturais (Brazilian Association of Conservators-Restorers of Cultural Goods) - ABRACOR - was founded in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on May 30th, 1980. It is a non-governmental and non-profit organization created to protect and ensure the rights of professionals in the field of Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Heritage. Its main objectives are:

1) To create, to foment and to promote all possible and adequate means for the development of techniques of Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Heritage. This is to be done in association with public and private, national and international organizations.

2) To promote the enhancement, improvement and diffusion of Conservation and Restoration work, organizing congresses, conventions, seminars, conferences and other professional gatherings.

3) To join together technicians in Conservation and Restoration, to support and defend the group’s class interests and to encourage the technical advancement of its associates by means of specialization courses, internships and scholarships.
